On Saturday, July 22, 2017, more than 75 kayakers and paddle boarders will challenge themselves on a five plus mile tour around beautiful Manhasset Bay in the 13th Annual Port Washington-Manhasset Bay Kayak Run. This event is co-presented by the Community Chest of Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead Parks Department. Sponsored by the Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation with major assistance from Atlantic Outfitters, many hardy paddlers look forward to this event all year long.

Participants of all ages enjoy this wonderful Manhasset Bay event which begins at the blast of a starter’s gun at 10 AM. Boats launch from locations all around the bay but convene at the town dock for the start. Dr. Joel Ziev, Community Chest board member and Kayak Run co-director, observes, “the Kayak Run is not a race and is a great way for novices and experienced kayakers alike to get out and enjoy our beautiful Manhasset Bay.” Beginners can feel safe kayaking longer distances knowing that assistance is always nearby provided by the Town’s Bay Constables and Port’s fire boat. Participants follow a marked route, passing check points manned by Community Chest volunteers, which qualify the paddlers for raffle prizes. With over 20 raffle prizes, there’s almost one prize per family—with the grand prize a new kayak.
Proceeds from the Port Washington – Manhasset Bay Kayak Run benefit the Community Chest of Port Washington’s 26 grantee organizations serving solely Port Washington residents.
