Below is an eclectic list of restaurants, both casual and high end. Each restaurant is grouped by distance from Port Washington: “Local” — in Port, ”Pretty Close” — under a 30 minute drive from Port, and “Further Away, but Worth the Drive” — over a 30 minute drive from Port. Use the “key” as a quick guide to find out if the restaurant is family friendly or more appropriate for date night. A means it’s a Port Washington Mama fave. Amalfi Restaurant & Pizzeria

49 Old Shore Road, Port Washington, New York

Offering homemade food, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service, this Italian restaurant serves everything from pizza to the Italian “basics”. The chicken parm is delish and the salads are good.

Casual, eco-minded regional chain for organic burgers (from beef to bison) & more, plus beer & wine.

One of our favorite eateries in Port — this husband and wife owned, casual American bistro serves an eclectic, modern menu with NYC quality food.

This New England-style clam shack set on Manhasset Bay offers fresh fish and a casual, blackboard menu. The lobster roll is awesome. If you’re not a fish eater, they offer burgers and chicken and a kid’s menu. I love that this place is super casual and you can sit at tables on the dock while wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops.



DiMaggio’s Trattoria

58 Irma Ave, Port Washington, New York

A family-friendly restaurant with solid Italian food and fair prices. The enclosed courtyard in the back is especially charming.



37 Shore Road, Port Washington, New York

Very good Indian food, great service, and warm atmosphere. Staff is very accommodating for kids — our daughter, a picky eater, always enjoys the naan and tandoori chicken.


Gino’s Pizzeria and Restaurant

48 Main Street, Port Washington, New York

Family operated, this family-freindly pizzeria and restaurant offers very good pizza and Italian dishes.

PWMama Tip: Favorite feature – they offer “delivery” to your car if you order on the train during your commute home.


La P’tite Framboise

One Library Drive, Port Washington, New York

This charming French bistro serves up freshly made, authentic French favorites. Very friendly staff that is always willing to move around tables to accommodate a stroller. Sister restaurants, Bistro Citron in Roslyn and Bistro Cassis in Huntington also have great food and warm ambiance.


La Parma

415 Main Street, Port Washington, New York

Family-style restaurant offering Italian cuisine. Large dining room with fireplace overlooking Manhasset Bay (although not many views of the water).



Louie’s Oyster Bar & Grille

395 Main Street, Port Washington, New York

You cannot get a better view. Set on the Manhasset Bay, this waterfront restaurant offers outdoor seating and large scale dinning rooms. Very good food (and drinks!). Special “Frank Sinatra Night” each Monday with live band.

An upscale pub with solid food. Very friendly bartenders and overall atmosphere. Offers special events including Karaoke Thursdays.


The Wild Goose

A new farm-to-table  with a country chic vibe from restauranter Kent Monkan (also owner of nearby spots The Brass Rail and Heirloom Tavern).


Wild Honey

This restaurant offers an intimate setting and sophisticated regional American fare. Perfect for date night.


Pretty Close

Bar Frites

Modern bistro with a broad menu that includes everything from escargot to mini tacos to Margherita pizza. Great outdoor dinning area. Very noisy, but very fun.


Bee Organics

A great little vegetarian cafe that also offers a juice bar, smoothie bar, tea house and eco boutique. Casual eatery that offers delicious whole foods.


2105 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, New York

Located in the Whole Foods parking lot, this restaurant is a hit with kids. They enjoy watching the hibachi grill and interacting with the “chefs”. Adults will enjoy the good food and specialty drinks.



1516 Old Northern Boulevard, Roslyn, New York

Excellent Mexican food and great cocktail menu. Perfect ambiance for date night. The tableside guacamole is a must.


Bryant & Cooper

2 Middle Neck Road, Roslyn, New York

My favorite steakhouse on Northern Boulevard. Masculine feel, outstanding cuisine. Also offers retail store where you can purchase steaks, burgers, roasted chicken etc.



2110 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, New York

Located in the Americana, this restaurant offers “casual”, Manhattan style, Italian. Can be a “scene” but food is very good. Nice outdoor seating area. Truffle pizza is to die for.
PW Mama Tip: Nearby Cippolini Pronto offers casual, prepared foods if you’re on the go. If you make it for breakfast, the oatmeal is delish.


Grimaldi’s Pizzeria

980 Franklin Avenue, Garden City, New York

Originating in Brooklyn, this brick-oven pizzeria is a family favorite.


Heirloom Tavern

32 Railroad Avenue, Glen Head, New York

American gastropub with good scene (and not too pretentious), delicious food, generous portions and fair prices.


Hendricks Tavern

1304 Old Northern Boulevard, Roslyn New York

Stylish, inviting and urban-style restaurant with great food and bar scene. Nice outdoor patio and excellent brunch menu, too. Great for couples or large groups.


Il Mulino

1042 Northern Boulevard, Roslyn, New York

One of the best restaurants on Long Island. Upscale Italian with generous portions, incredible service, and an old school feel. Pricey, but worth it for a special night out.


Kotobuki Roslyn

1530 Old Northern Boulevard, Roslyn New York

One of the best sushi restaurants on Long Island. Delicious fresh sushi, generous portions. A no reservation rule; expect a wait on Friday and Saturday nights.



1446 Old Northern Blvd, Roslyn New York

Sophisticated and stylish decor with delicious, fresh Greek food and good bar scene.



113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, New York

Here, bartenders are called mixologists. Nice eclectic menu, both tapas and regular entrees. Seating can be cramped. Right next to Great Neck Movie Theater — fun date night ?



88 Mineola Avenue, Roslyn Heights, New York

Family-style Italian dinning. Upscale and a little “sceney” but wonderful waitstaff and fine for kids if dinning early. Great food.


MP Taverna

1363 Old Northern Boulevard, Roslyn New York

A modern interpretation of a traditional Greek tavern, this restaurant is delicious. Very accommodating staff, outdoor seating on the top floor and plenty of room for strollers if you go for lunch. After your meal, you can go for a stroll around the Roslyn pond across the street.



8 Tower Place, Roslyn, New York

Thyme offers a seasonal menu. Particularly good for brunch. If it’s nice, ask to be seated on the porch in the back.



2014 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, New York

Located in the Americana, this restaurant reminds me of a mini Nobu – trendy, sexy décor, delicious food and cocktail menu, and high prices. Nice al fresco dining area. Good for drinks and date night.


Trattoria Diane

21 Bryant Avenue, Roslyn New York

A family-run restaurant that is casual, inviting, and offers a modern take on a traditional, Roman menu. For a quick lunch, visit their Panini Café located behind the bakery. Reservations are generally needed for weekend dinner.



850 Franklin Avenue, Garden City, New York

Belgian Bistro in the heart of Garden City. Global wines, over 130 Belgian Beers and innovative cocktail menu. Chic lounge, sophisticated atmosphere, very good food.


Further Away But Worth The Drive

Barneys Locust Valley

Set in an old house with a blazing fireplace, this romantic restaurant offers great (but pricey) food, wine, and service.


Café Buenos Aires

23 Wall Street, Huntington, New York

Quaint, Argentinian café offering friendly service, delicious, authentic food and wine. Patio seating. Make sure to order sangria and an empanada.


Honu Kitchen & Cocktails

363 New York Avenue, Huntington, New York

Upscale, yet casual décor. Rated “Excellent” by the New York Times. Terrific menu, great cocktails, fun vibe. Gets crowded and “sceney”.


Nautical Mile

Woodcleft Ave, Freeport, NY

A mile walk of wonderful restaurants, ice cream shops, and small shops. Plenty of outdoor dining (and drinking) options from super casual to more formal.



117 New York Avenue, Huntington, New York

Outdoor dinning with heat lamps and beautiful water views during the summer make this restaurant extra special. Food and specialty drinks are very good but pricey.


Rare 650

650 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset, New York

Upscale ambiance, lively bar scene, outdoor seating, and delicious cuisine. One of Long Island’s premier steakhouses and sushi restaurant. Perfect for a special night out.


Swallow Restaurant

366 New York Ave, Huntington, New York

Small plate/tapas menu with excellent food and service. Reservations strongly recommended.
