The story of Brooke Wyeth who returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened.

Looking to cast:

Brooke Wyeth: liberal leftist, writer, intelligent, tortured, dry-witted, depressive, separated from her husband, estranged from her parents for six years, recently suffered a nervous breakdown. Daughter of Polly and Lyman. (mid-late 30’s)

Polly Wyeth: tough, brittle, a bit of a bully, elegant, determined, practitioner of tough love, forthright, whip-smart, admirably unsentimental, in flight from her Jewishness and Texas upbringing, a Republican activist. Married to Lyman. (60’s)

Lyman Wyeth: WASP, a former movie star, ambassador and state GOP chair, sturdy, a steel pillar, affable, gentle, the family’s peacekeeper and protector, very firm in his beliefs, friend of the Reagans. Married to Polly. (60’s to early 70’s)

Trip Wyeth: bright, funny, works hard at being happy, flippant, apolitical TV producer of a silly reality TV show. Son of Polly and Lyman; brother of Brooke. (mid-20’s to early 30’s)

Silda Grauman: a wise-cracking, embittered, liberal, burnt out, just-out-of rehab mess with a lot of savvy and wisdom, former screen writing partner of her sister Polly. (60’s)
