Vinicius Cantuaria Canta Jobim

March 25, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Singer, guitarist, composer, drummer, and percussionist, Vinicius Cantuaria is a well-known Brazilian musician in the sphere of Bossa Nova and Jazz.

Born in Manaus, Amazonas, he grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where he was a pioneer of neo-Brazilian music. After six successful records, including 1996’s powerful Sol na Cara, Cantuaria moved to New York in the mid-90s. He then became one of the most important downtown New York figures, blending New York/cosmopolitain musicians (Bill Frisell, Ryuichi Sakamoto) with Brazilian ones (Dadi, Limihna) and collaborating with artists as eclectic as Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Brad Mehldau and Arto Lindsay.

Although he is active in the NYC jazz scene, this is Cantuaria’s first appearance on Long Island. He is performing the music of legendary Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim.
