Lunar New Year Celebration

February 3, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Join us for a Lunar New Year Celebration, with performance, food and crafts!

Chinese New Year is a major holiday for Chinese communities around the world, and has significantly influenced the Lunar New Year celebrations of its geographic neighbors. Known in modern Chinese as the “Spring Festival,” the New Year festival is based on centuries-old myths and traditions. In 2018 we celebrate the Year of the Dog.

Landmark presents a day of cultural activities, with free morning and afternoon performances in the Jeanne Rimsky Theater and food and free crafts in the gym “sandwiched” in between.

Special Guests – @NEW YORK CHINESE CHORUS
The New York Chinese Chorus strives to promote Chinese folk music. Their mission is to connect eastern and western music, creating a musical bridge by exchanging and appreciating roots in the Asian culture. Comprised of talented vocalists from different parts of the New York metropolitan area, singers trace their background to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South East Asia, and Mainland China. Come listen as this award winning chorus performs popular Chinese folk songs, ancient tunes, and even modern Mandopop song from Taiwan arranged for the Chorus.

Chinese Theatre Works presents THE FOUR TREASURES.
Exploring the rich tapestry of traditional Chinese performing arts, this program provides an introduction to the repertoire, musical instruments and performance for both Chinese and western audiences. The program includes excerpts from Chinese opera, dance and puppetry, with English language introductions. Chinese Theatre Works is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional and contemporary Chinese performing arts.

Free admission to our Lunar New Year celebration is made possible by our sponsors WAC Lighting and The Glow Foundation.
