Festival of Colors

March 18, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Welcome Port Washington’s latest magical adventure. Holi, also known as the Indian Festival of Colors, celebrates the coming of spring, the joy of friendship, and equality for all. This Indian festival, is celebrated every year, not just in India, but throughout the world. The colored powders used in Holi, represent happiness, love, and the freedom to live vibrantly. Join us on March 18th for our first annual Holi Color Party.

Make sure to wear white because this party gets colorful. The program begins by learning how to produce a colorful chemical reaction using the process of sublimation. This will be followed by a mindful meditative walk through our Forest of Fabrics Installation, inspired by the Artists Christo & Jeanne-Claude (The Gates of Central Park). This guided meditative walk will deliver you to an open campfire where you will learn how to produce an array of colorful flames through the use of chemistry. While gathering around the campfire, participate and listen to the powerful sounds of a drum circle.
Join us after the campfire, amongst the trees that have been interwoven with panels of flowing silk, to help design a magical communal masterpiece of art using natural dyes, which will then be transformed into a one of a kind wearable silk art. Finally, delight the five senses in a beautiful ceremony as you are gently sprinkled in a cascade of colorful powders- welcoming the Holi Spring Equinox. Celebrate the growth and warmth of spring while enjoying an assortment of delicious food and delight in the view of our very own beautiful Manhasset Bay.
