Conversations from Main Street Equal Means Equal

May 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Director Kamala Lopez’ award-winning documentary film is an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, Lopez explores how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence issues from workplace harassment to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, and the healthcare conglomerate to the judicial system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, and presents a persuasive argument for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. Running time: 1 hr 40 minutes. Discussion to follow.
FREE ADMISSION TO CONVERSATIONS FROM MAIN STREET MADE POSSIBLE BY THE ANGELA & SCOTT JAGGAR FOUNDATION.
This event is co-produced by the League of Women Voters and the Port Washington Public Library.
